Composting Leaves

Dunning began accepting leaves from gardeners, homeowners, landscapers, and municipalities in the fall of 2011. The leaves are arranged in large windrows and turned over every few weeks. Within six months-to-a-year, the leaves are transformed into highly organic, rich compost available to gardeners, landscapers, homeowners and farmers.

Utilizing Recycled Materials

We built a special five acre pad for the windrows, complete with a special drainage system to collect any runoff from the piles of composting leaves. The pad, meanwhile, is made from Millings made from the reconstruction of New Britain Avenue in Farmington during the summer of 2011. So we’re using recycled material to continue and grow our recycling program.
